Super alloys or high performance alloys have high creep and oxidation resistance. They can be used in environments with high mechanical stress and very high temperatures, and also where high surface stability is required. They are classified into three groups such as cobalt-based, nickel-based, and iron-based alloys.
Super alloys were primarily developed for jet engines as they require very high operating temperatures.
